Parts of cars prone to break… Find out!

The maintenance of a vehicle is essential if we want to enjoy it and not have unwanted setbacks on the least expected day. For this reason, we must pay special attention to the main wear parts of our car. The review that the dealer tells us according to the make and model is the guide on which we must use to carry out this check.

Brakes

They are disc-shaped pieces of iron that are responsible for reducing the speed of the wheels and stopping the vehicle. It is best to check them every 30,000km or when you feel vibrations in the steering wheel or brake pedal. Generally, when it is time to change the brake discs it is also time to replace the pads, since it is the part that ‘bites’ the disc to stop the car, which is why they suffer a lot of wear due to continuous friction. If before this period of time you hear a squealing noise every time you brake, it means that you must advance the change of pads, since they have been used up and the disc is being pinched directly by the iron support. This causes disks to be damaged.

Clutch

Clutch kits are also at the top of spare parts. It consists of the clutch mechanism, the disc and the release bearing, and is responsible for sending the engine’s power to the gearbox. Therefore it is one of the most prone to wear Its useful life should not be less than 100,000 km, although misuse can cause the clutch to break prematurely. If you notice more resistance or hardness than usual when pressing the clutch, or you see that the engine revolutions increase but not the speed, it is most likely that you need to change the clutch.

The headlights or pilots

The lighting system, especially when the vehicle is parked on public roads, is usually one of the most affected by small bumps and scratches. This also makes it one of the elements that break the most in cars today. Likewise, it may be due to wear and tear over time, and this will weaken the strength of the light. Headlights are absolutely necessary to be able to drive your car after dusk, because they will guarantee good visibility behind the wheel for both you and other drivers. In addition, during the year we face meteorological phenomena such as rain, fog or even snow that can hinder our vision if we do not use the appropriate lights. For this reason, drivers have become aware of the importance of visibility and have changed their headlights.

Tires

Lack of control or maintenance is usually the main cause that ends the useful life of tires. A sewer, a puncture, irregular wear or deformities are the main reasons why car wheels are replaced. That is why you are asked to keep an eye on your car’s dashboard when it indicates a problem with the tire. Remember that at RSG Magazine we have several places where you can go to have one of your tires repaired.

Oil

An oil change is cheap and simple, but if it is not done it can lead to a tremendously expensive breakdown. Oil is one of the most basic and indispensable elements of a vehicle, since it keeps the engine lubricated, thus guaranteeing its correct functioning. During these years it has been one of the most in-demand parts, and to prevent the engine from overheating or wearing out prematurely, it is advisable to change the oil at least once a year, or every 15,000 kilometers depending on the recommendations. from the manufacturers. It is important that you keep in mind that, if your car is older and more than 15 years old, you will have to replace it before reaching 10,000 kilometers.

Shock

These are part of the suspension system and are responsible for controlling the movement of the tires, reducing rolling and rebound when we are on the road. The stiffer the shock absorber, the more stability the vehicle will have. However, if it is too soft, the car will lose control and therefore it will be time to change the shock absorber. Drivers give a lot of importance to this element, as demonstrated by the fact that this year has been one of the most requested.

Catalyst

Abusing short trips or making multiple urban trips, especially with diesel vehicles, are practices that reduce the useful life of the catalyst. Having bad spark plugs could also affect the condition of this element. When the catalyst is in poor condition we will perceive a lack of power and the engine will stall repeatedly. If this happens, you may consider purchasing a new catalytic converter, so think quickly and go to the shop.

Filters

Clogging and the need for periodic checks for replacement lead car filters to be one of the vehicle elements that require the most attention. The filters of each of the vehicle systems do not actually break, but they do become clogged and it is necessary to monitor their condition to change them when necessary, since the proper functioning and performance of the vehicle will depend on it.

Timing belt

It is responsible for synchronizing the operation of the engine; the timing belt must be changed between 60,000 and 160,000 kilometers, according to the instructions of each manufacturer. But not all drivers follow this guideline, which causes a breakdown with serious consequences that requires imminent replacement.

How to fix scratches on the car rim?

Before starting any repairs, it is important to properly clean the wheel and surrounding areas. This includes removing any dirt, dust, or debris that may have accumulated on the wheel. Use a mild detergent and a soft brush to clean the wheel, and then rinse it thoroughly with water. After preparing the wheel for repair as outlined above, the following steps are used for painting and repainting:
  1. Sand the damaged area: Use fine-grit sandpaper to gently sand down the damaged area. This will help to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to.
  2. Apply a filler: Apply a filler to the damaged area to help fill the deepers scratches. Leave it 30 minutes.
  3. Sand the filler: Use again the  fine-grit sandpaper to gently.
  4. Apply primer: Apply a primer to the damaged area to help the paint adhere better. Allow the primer to dry completely.
  5. Apply paint: Before this step, use something to mask off the tire. Apply paint to the damaged area using a paint gun or brush. Use multiple thin coats to build up the paint and achieve an even finish. Allow the paint to dry completely between coats.
  6. Apply clear coat: Apply a clear coat to the painted area to protect the paint and give it a glossy finish. Allow the clear coat to dry completely.
It’s important to note that the paint may not match the original colour of the wheel or rim exactly, and also painting and repainting is a temporary solution, it may not last as long as other methods like sanding and polishing or full wheel replacement. Here’s a video to watch How to do it.

Remember that in RSG magazine you can find any of these parts. Take care of your car.
